In this corner...!

Did you know you're not supposed to store your potatoes and onions together? Neither did I! I learned that this week, from one of the food blogs I've started following. And of course I can't find the article now. Though the internet is replete with references to this very kitchen tip, so if you don't believe me, just look it up.

I told my Beloved this, and he just looked at me and said, "Why not? Do they fight?"

See why I married him?

Which makes the real story - they make each other sprout - kind of boring, really. But still true. I immediately separated my onions and my spuds, and I shall hope for unsprouted, firm spuds and tearjerkers for the rest of my life.

  1. Hey I didn't know that either! Just by luck I've never stored them together. TEEHEE @ "Do they fight?"

  2. That was my question, too. Why not?

  3. Thanks, jfaraday; isn't it lovely? The bog-standard Blogger templates are so boring. Fortunately, there are lots of options out there!

I think my mom always kept onions and potatoes together - or at least she never told me not to. Of course, my problem might arise from a habit of forgetting they're there until something smells dreadful. :D

  4. Wouldn't you know, that's about the only thing I'm not doing wrong about my storage of both potatoes and onions.

(As far as I know, they're both supposed to go in dark, dry places, right? My potatoes are in the kitchen windowsill, i.e. not dark, onions are in the fridge, i.e. not dry. The joys of living small.)

  5. You forgot "cool", Sietske; is your kitchen windowsill cool?
